Homeless Prevention

Addressing the Housing Needs of Individuals and Families

Affordable housing for working individuals and families is a critical issue in our community.  PROCEED, Inc. provides rental assistance to residents of Elizabeth and the greater Union County, NJ,  based on established eligibility and the availability of funds. any residents who seek and receive assistance belong to the category of “working families” who are rent-burdened, dependent on paycheck to paycheck, and not eligible for government subsidies.

Under this program, eligible individuals and families are assisted with:

  • Rental payments to landlords to maintain stable housing and prevent homelessness;
  • Assistance with security deposits for persons who do not have adequate resources to afford the security deposit payment.
  • Payment of rental arrears owed to the landlords.
  • Assistance with first month’ rental payment to secure apartment.

Families and individuals that receive rental payment assistance are strongly encouraged to attend monthly financial literacy classes hosted at PROCEED’s offices, to learn about credit and budgeting.  Classes are taught by PROCEED staff and staff from area banks.

This program is open to residents of Elizabeth and the greater Union County and is free of charge.
