Family Counseling

Promoting the Stability, Health and Well-Being of All Families

Family structures are diverse and come in all forms.  Family can include blood relatives, foster families, adopted families, and other non-related persons that play a long-term and significant role in an individuals’ life.  Whether by blood or chosen, “family” affects who we are, who we become, our customs, how we view the world, and how we learn to love and interact with others.

Family Counseling is a form of psychotherapy that uses a strengths-based treatment approach to help family members address specific issues that negatively impact family heath and functioning.   Family counseling aims to improve communication and reduce and resolve conflicts among family members. It is usually short-term and provided by a psychologist, clinical social worker or licensed therapist.

Family counseling can be conducted with the entire family unit, or with family members that are able or willing to participate.   Family counseling is especially helpful for families coping with the addiction, mental health, behavioral health or medical issues of a family member(s).

PROCEED’s Family Counseling services are open to residents of Elizabeth and the greater Union County based on income eligibility.
